Talcum Powder Lawsuit Attorneys at Bernstein Liebhard LLP Comment on Recent Study Suggesting Link Between Talc Products, Ovarian Cancer
March 30, 2016 (PRLEAP.COM) Business NewsMarch 30, 2016 - As talcum powder lawsuits (http://www.rxinjuryhelp.com/talcum-powder/lawsuit/) mount in courts around the U.S., Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that a recent study has suggested that regular use of talc-based products for feminine hygiene purposes may increase a woman's risk for ovarian cancer. The research, which appeared this past December in the journal Epidemiology, involved 2,041 women with ovarian cancer and 2,100 similar women who did not have the disease, all of whom were surveyed about their talcum powder use. Those who reported that they routinely applied talcum powder to their genitals, underwear, sanitary napkins and tampons had a 33 percent higher risk of ovarian cancer.
"Hundreds of talcum powder lawsuits are now making their way through the courts, all of which allege that regular, genital exposure to Johnson & Johnson talc products contributed to the development of ovarian cancer. This research would certainly seem to support those allegations," says Sandy A. Liebhard, a partner at Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective medical devices, drugs and consumer products. The Firm is offering free legal reviews to women who were diagnosed with ovarian cancer following years of regular, repeated use of talc-based products for feminine hygiene purposes.
Johnson & Johnson Talcum Powder Litigation
Court records indicate that more than 1,200 talcum powder lawsuits have been filed against Johnson & Johnson over the alleged link between talc-based products and ovarian cancer. A number of these cases have been centralized in a multicounty litigation now underway in New Jersey's Atlantic County Superior Court. Plaintiffs claim that the company knowingly withheld information and warnings regarding the association between talcum powder and ovarian cancer from the public in order to safeguard profits from its Shower to Shower and Johnson's Baby Powder products. (In Re: Talc-Based Powder Products, Case No. 300)
On February 22nd, a St. Louis, Missouri jury awarded $72 million to the family of a woman who blamed Johnson & Johnson's talcum powder products for their mother's death from ovarian cancer. The verdict marked the first time that a jury ordered the company to pay financial damages in a talcum powder lawsuit. (Cause No. 1422-CC09012-01, Division 10, Missouri Circuit Court, 22nd Judicial District (St. Louis))
Women who were diagnosed with ovarian cancer following the long-term, regular use of talc-based products for feminine hygiene purposes may be eligible to file their own talcum powder lawsuit.
