Raising knowledge, expertise and standards for e-learning

Leadership in the application of technologies to learning, six opportunities a year to get up-to-date on the latest developments, best practice approaches and theory relating to e-learning in the workplace are just some of the benefits of being a member of the eLearning Network (ELN), the UK’s leading professional association for users and developers of e-learning.

The ELN’s stand at this year’s Learning Technologies exhibition, being held at Olympia 2, in London, on 25th and 26th January, will give potential members a chance to quiz some of the UK’s leading exponents of e-learning on current trends and developments in their specialist fields.

“In addition,” said Vaughan Waller, the ELN’s chairman, “members of the ELN are reaping the benefits of the ELN’s updated website.”

The ‘new-look’ website includes:
• a ‘links page’ to useful websites and resources relating to instructional design, management development and so on;
• an ‘international events page’, to allow ELN members to book places – many at reduced rates - at other key conferences that are taking place around the world;
• a page relating to the 2006 e-Learning Awards, and
• access to a ‘developers’ forum’ blog.

“The blog has been ‘up-and-running’ for some time,” said Waller, “so those visiting or contributing to the forum will have the benefit of the accumulated wisdom of a number of existing ‘e-learning exemplars’.

“In addition to holding its usual selection of popular conferences, the ELN’s plans for 2006 include forging closer links with the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD)’s UK chapter,” he added. “While, naturally, British developers and users of e-learning enjoy their e-learning having a ‘UK’ flavour, there is much that we can learn from the ASTD – in terms of
promoting standards and best practice, among other things.

“Hopefully, in collaboration with the ASTD, we can establish and promote international standards which will provide confidence to buyers wherever they may be in the world when purchasing e-learning materials produced in the UK,” he said.
