INDEPENDENDENT FOOSBALL PROMOTIONS (IFP) ANNOUNCES THE $25,000 12th ANNUAL SUPERBOWL OF FOOSBALL - Kentucky Tournament Gains International Attention - U.S. National Team to be Announced -

(PRLEAP.COM) LEXINGTON, KY – All over the world, athletes are training, conditioning and studying each other’s moves in preparation for an incredible sports event: the 12th Annual Superbowl of Foosball. Yes, you read that right: Foosball. To be held January 26-29 at the North Lexington Holiday Inn, this event is expected to draw approximately 300 of the best foosball (a.k.a. "table soccer") players in the nation, and numerous top international players as well.

This year’s Superbowl of Foosball will also feature announcement by the United States Table Soccer Federation (USTSF) of those players named to the U.S. National Team. The National Team, composed of six men, two women and two alternates (one male/one female), will be representing the United States at the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) World Cup of Table Soccer Championship to be held 25-28 May in Hamburg, Germany. And while the United States is not anticipated to match up against the very top world competition in the “real” World Cup of Soccer (also being hosted in Hamburg, Germany), the Americans are expected to field the strongest table soccer team in history!

Already, avid foosball enthusiasts will be closely watching the Kentucky tournament’s possible match-ups between Belgian superstar Frederico Collignon, 29, who has dominated global competition for the last seven years, and Americans Billy Pappas, 21, of Deacut, MA and Tony Spredeman, 21, of Cudahy, WI. Pappas and Spredeman, the only two to have handed Collignon defeats in recent major international events, will be joined in this tournament by at least 300 male and female competitors vying for a total of $25,000 in cash and prizes.

Now recognized as an ITSF Master Series event, the annual Superbowl of Foosball has even been elevated to international tour status. The tournament is organized by Kentucky’s own Independent Foosball Promotions and sanctioned by both USTSF and ITSF; and with other ITSF 2006 World Tour events scheduled to take place in Las Vegas and in Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Japan, Poland and the UK, this year’s tour will be the largest worldwide table soccer pro tour ever. It is open to all spectators and there is no admission fee to enter the tournament room. Opening events begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26th, with most finals occurring on Sunday the 29th.
