ShoCard Partners With Travel Technology Provider SITA to Develop First Prototype to Handle Traveler Identity Leveraging the Blockchain to manage traveler identification in all locations

AIR TRANSPORT IT SUMMIT, Barcelona – June 1 2016 – Digital identity provider ShoCard announces it is working with travel technology provider SITA to leverage ShoCard's unique approach to identity verification via the Blockchain. Together, they have developed an early demo that illustrates a new way for travelers to use a Single Travel Token to pass through airports and across borders. This revolutionary technology could allow for secure, biometric authentication of passengers throughout their journey across borders. It could eliminate the need for multiple travel documents, and protect passengers' personal information by putting them in charge of the information they share.

Working with SITA Lab, ShoCard has demonstrated how its technology uses digital passports on mobile devices and uses the blockchain to authenticate travelers. The goal is to provide a solution that will reduce the complexity, cost and liability around document checks during a passenger's journey while speeding up the process of traveler authentication. ShoCard's unique approach to providing digital identification services leverages the blockchain to create a more open yet secure way to verify identity. The concept was demonstrated to senior IT executives from the world's leading airlines and airports at the Air Transport IT Summit in Barcelona.

Jim Peters, CTO, SITA said, "Blockchain technology offers us the potential to provide a new way of using biometrics. It could enable biometrics to be used across borders, and at all airports, without the passenger's details being stored by the various authorities. ShoCard has worked with us to demonstrate how we could make this a reality."

The Blockchain has emerged as a secure, decentralized, globally distributed, public data store that can be leveraged for many applications. By adopting the Blockchain ledger for this purpose, ShoCard has developed a unique approach to verifying and confirming a person's (or organization's) identity through a series of checks and certifications that are made possible through the publicly available open ledger and only with user permission enabled through their private keys and biometrics.

"With this approach, travelers would be in more control over their personal information, providing what is strictly necessary to verify their identity, all through the convenience of their mobile phone," said Armin Ebrahimi, founder and CEO of ShoCard. "In the future, they should be able to provide all the credentials they need to not only travel by air, but for their travel by car to the hotel, checking into the hotel and even getting access to their room seamlessly. All of this could be done securely and conveniently, using their mobile device."

ShoCard is establishing itself as the leader in identity management leveraging the Blockchain since its inception last year. Backed by Jerry Yang's venture fund, AME Cloud Ventures, ShoCard's team has been building and managing highly scalable identity services since the emergence of the Web. Ebrahimi was a senior technology executive with Yahoo that ran the identity services division of its worldwide user base for many years.

Blockchain technology allows 'privacy by design' so that passenger data can be secure, encrypted, tamper-proof and unusable for any other purpose. At the same time, it eliminates the need for a single authority to own, process or store the data. The crypto-led computer science of blockchain provides a network of trust, where the source and history of the data is verifiable by everyone.
