December 28, 2016 - Vancouver, BC –iData Research (www.idataresearch.com), a leading international market research and consulting firm, has published results from its orthopedic Procedure Tracker database that quantifies over 7000 primary and secondary procedure volumes across the United States. In 2015, there were approximately 1.5 million hip and knee arthroplasties in the U.S. This number is expected to grow due to the rapidly expanding baby boomer population as well as increased awareness of joint replacement procedures. Hip reconstruction is differentiated into total hip replacements, partial hip replacements, resurfacing and revisions. Total hip replacements make up approximately 70% of total hip procedures.

"Our Procedure Tracker customizable system allows clients to follow current procedure volume trends and determine which product lines drive or hinder revenue streams," explains Dr. Kamran Zamanian, CEO of iData. "A demo with our Procedure Tracker Team can be conducted to show clients how we would track a particular procedure based on the corresponding CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10 codes."

iData Research Procedure Tracker Key Features Include:
  • Defined procedures based on Medical Claim information, hospital discharge data and iData's procedure research
  • Over 7000 procedures classified into 18 therapeutic areas including cardiology, anesthesiology, orthopedics, urology, endoscopy, and more
  • Data covers 4 medical settings including hospital inpatient and outpatient, doctor's office and ambulatory centers
  • Data can be segmented by physician specialty including specialized surgeons, nurses and general practitioners
  • Procedures are further segmented by Year

  • Most knee reconstruction procedures can be categorized by their use of total, partial or revision implants. Procedure growth is strongest in total knee replacements as well as their revisions, while partial knee replacements, a relatively niche market, are experiencing lower procedure growth. Resurfacing is by far the niche segment in hip procedures, and is expected to decline steadily as they are replaced by partial replacements. However, it is not expected to become a dead market as resurfacing remains a viable procedure for patients with large femoral heads who are good candidates.
