A recent news report stated that there were plans to vaccinate children under two years old with the flu vaccine. Many parents are already concerned about the number of vaccines their children are receiving and Manchester based nutritionist, Elizabeth Harfleet thinks they are right to be worried.

Elizabeth is at the forefront of a growing consensus amongst many professionals that building up children’s’ natural resistance to disease is every bit, if not more important than carrying out vaccinations.

Elizabeth argues that anti-oxidant rich plant foods such as fruits and vegetables, together with anti-viral foods such as garlic, coconut, oregano and echinacea do not guarantee that we will never be ill, but when eaten regularly can go a long way in helping to make us more resistant to disease.

“Anti-oxidant nutrients are more commonly known as Vitamins A, C and E. Vitamin C, in particular is noted for its ability to help counteract the effects of the common cold. It is found in all fruits and vegetables, but notably in citrus fruits, blackcurrants, and broccoli”.
