Lubbock, Texas - The grassroots home schooling organization, the Texas Home School Coalition (THSC), is honored to host Governor Rick Perry as keynote speaker as it recognizes home schooling heroes from across the state on March 17th. THSC's 11th annual Awards Banquet - to be held at the Marriott Northwest Hotel in San Antonio - marks the celebration by the organization of 20 years of work for recognition and acceptance of home education in Texas. A private reception for major sponsors will precede the awards and celebration dinner at 7 p.m.

"Home schooling has come a long way in the last twenty years, and the governor's presence adds a true measure of celebration and proves that our efforts have been making a difference," says THSC president Tim Lambert. "We've come from struggling against the government of our great state to becoming a viable, mainstream educational alternative."

Home schooling is currently the fastest growing educational alternative within Texas. The banquet will celebrate the increasing popularity of home schooling and recognize students from across the state in a number of categories.

"Awards will be presented to students earning Good Citizenship Awards; in addition, there will be a special ceremony for the winners of the State Home School Debate Tournament," explains Lambert. "We'll also recognize several state legislators for their help to home schoolers, and of course, the announcement of THSC's Leader of the Year is always a highlight."

The benefit wraps up with the announcement of the winners of the silent auction, which has returned by popular demand.

"We have a lot to celebrate, and we're looking forward to the next 20 years," says Lambert.
