FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DETROIT- Michigan’s largest Private Track & Field Meet will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2006 starting at 8:00AM at the Martin Luther King High School, 3200 East Lafayette Street, Detroit, MI. The Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relay’s, the largest private competition in the state of Michigan is poised to become the premier track and field competition for high school students in the Midwest.

In the spring of 2005, twenty-five Michigan teams participated in the First Annual Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays with well over 400 athletes (boys and girls) competing for individual and team trophies. This year, the relays are expecting over sixty athletic teams with over 2000 athletes from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, as well as Michigan. What is attracting most of the athletes is its unique and unprecedented payoff where in addition to individual and team accolades there are scholarships available based upon academic merit and not just athletic ability. This event underscores that the athletic ability in lockstep with the academic achievement will enable one to be eligible for a college scholarship which will be provided by the Robert S. Shumake Foundation and administered by the United Negro College Fund.

The Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays which highlights academic achievement as well as athletic ability is the brainchild of Detroit businessman, Robert S. Shumake, an Edwin Denby High School all city track and field competitor and Founder of Inheritance Investment Group, LLC, a Detroit real estate investment service firm. Mr. Shumake acquired critical life skills such as discipline, dedication, perseverance and teamwork on the athletic field which prepared him for real life situations and challenges. Mr. Shumake states that “These indelible life skills showed me at an early age that I could achieve greatness through persistence, perseverance and preparedness.” This cauldron which forged and shaped his life skills enabled him to not only to develop into one of Detroit’s premier track and field competitors, but eventually into one of Detroit’s leading successful businessmen.

Today, this influential businessman, entrepreneur, lecturer, philanthropist, presidential and gubernatorial appointee is eager to share his successes by giving back to his beloved Detroit community. The Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays is an opportunity for him to help young people realize their goals and aspirations. Additionally, Mr. Shumake has recently authored “For Entrepreneurs who considered Suicide when business Got Tough”, a poetic motivational business guide for today’s entrepreneurs. The proceeds from this publication go to the Robert S. Shumake Relays Foundation. “Helping young people realize their dreams and goals is one of the fundamental tenets of the Relays and I am blessed and privileged to be a part of this wondrous event.” So states Mr. Shumake.
