Fenestrae to Provide Outlook Mobile Access Solution for Microsoft Exchange “12”

February 16, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Barcelona, Spain - 16 February 2006 –Fenestrae, a leading global solutions provider for messaging and mobility software, today announced a broad reach mobile access solution for Exchange “12”, the upcoming new release of Microsoft’s leading messaging platform. While Exchange “12” will continue to include ActiveSync providing an efficient always up to date e-mail experience to Exchange ActiveSync-enabled phones, it will not include Outlook Mobile Access (OMA). Fenestrae’s solution will provide an alternate solution for OMA users allowing them to access their Exchange “12” data from any mobile device. OMA is a popular feature, specifically among telecom operators and service providers, as part of their Hosted Exchange offering. By offering this solution, Fenestrae will be able to offer these service providers a broad reach mobile email solution.

“Microsoft has made a significant investment in Exchange ActiveSync technology, but to provide customers the greatest choice of mobility solutions we work with mobility partners like Fenestrae to provide Exchange Server customers with an added level of mobile connectivity, making the Exchange platform available to the widest range of mobile devices in use today. Fenestrae’s solution will allow customers to maximize the potential of organizations to enjoy the benefits of mobile access by all employees”, said Donna Conner, Group Product Manager of Exchange Marketing at Microsoft Corp. “With the Fenestrae Mobile Data Server solution for Exchange “12”, Exchange customers around the world can benefit from the enhanced ability to be mobile and connected to Exchange Server with any mobile device.”

Fenestrae will provide an alternative solution for OMA users, allowing them to securely browse their Exchange “12” data including Outlook mail, contacts, calendar and tasks using any mobile device. The solution is part of the total Fenestrae Mobile Data Server suite that the company offers. This suite also provides mobile over-the-air synchronization and device management that complements the capabilities of Windows Mobile. This combination will make Exchange Server available for the widest possible range of devices in use today.

“According to the GSM association there are over 2 billion cellular phones in use today. It is estimated that over 75% of all phones in use are so called feature phones: mobile internet capable devices that, unlike Windows Mobile and Symbian devices, do not have a programmable operating system”, says Wim de Koning, founder and CEO of Fenestrae. “Our solutions provide these feature phones with secure and easy ways to manage access to Microsoft Exchange “12”. This allows organizations to, in a cost effective manner, offer the benefits of mobile access to all employees.”

Broad reach mobile access is also important to the growing number of telco’s and service providers that offer Hosted Exchange. “With the combined solution we can offer all our customers mobile access at an acceptable price point”, says Roger Pedersen, CTO at Systec, a leading managed service provider in Norway. “Most solutions require us to install specific software on the device, which is cumbersome, costly and limits the number of devices we can support. The Fenestrae solution uses capabilities already available on the device and allows the device to be configured remotely. This increases our reach as well as reduces the cost for the end user.”
