ITpreneurs Updates COBIT Courseware In Tune With ITGI’s COBIT 4.0

February 21, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
To help organizations increase IT Value, decrease related risks and further improve IT governance and control arrangements, the IT Governance Institute® (ITGI) has come out with version 4.0 of COBIT® (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology). As IT and the guidance required to manage it effectively do not stand still, COBIT users worldwide expect continuous support and improvement from time to time. So to provide for a continuously maintained and updated framework reflecting the needs of fast changing IT issues, user feedback and continuous improvement, ITGI has released its latest edition of COBIT i.e., COBIT 4.0.

In tune with this development, ITpreneurs is updating the existing COBIT courseware to COBIT 4.0. ISACA and ITpreneurs are migrating the COBIT Foundation course to COBIT 4.0 at the moment. In the first quarter of 2006, the COBIT Foundation Course and COBIT Foundation Exam based on COBIT Version 4.0 will be released.

The new edition COBIT 4.0 provides a stronger business focus to address the evolving responsibilities of boards and employees. COBIT 4.0 marks the first major update of the COBIT core content since the release of COBIT 3rd Edition in the year 2000. The first edition was published in 1994. The introduction of COBIT 4.0 does not invalidate work done with COBIT 3rd Edition, but provides the opportunity to build on that work and further improve IT governance and control arrangements, where appropriate.

"The new edition of COBIT provides good practices and links upward to support the IT governance requirements of executives and boards, while also linking downward to address the more detailed requirements of those responsible for solution and service delivery. This provides further support to optimise IT investments, ensure value delivery and mitigate IT risk in a transparent manner", said Erik Guldentops, CISA, CISM, a management consultant in Brussels, Belgium, and a member of the COBIT development team since inception.

The latest version of COBIT— COBIT® 4.0— emphasizes on regulatory compliance, helps organizations to increase the value attained from IT, enables alignment and simplifies implementation of the COBIT framework. COBIT 4.0 includes guidance for boards of directors and all levels of management. It consists of four sections:

-> The executive overview
-> The framework
-> The core content (control objectives, management guidelines and maturity models)
-> Appendices (mappings, cross-references and a glossary)

The core content is divided according to the 34 IT process and gives a complete picture of how to control, manage and measure each process.
