“PRAYERS & SQUARES” QUILTING MINISTRY WINS SEWING MACHINE GIVEAWAY FOR “PROJECT LINUS NATIONAL MAKE A BLANKET DAY”
(PRLEAP.COM) TEMECULA, CA March 8, 2006—Project Linus National Make a Blanket Day was celebrated at Temecula Valley Sewing Center when Claudia Rose, co-founder and Queen of Fairy Godmother Guild, drew the winning ticket for a *Janome 3050 computerized sewing machine.
“I’m thrilled!” remarked Queen Claudia, after she pulled the winning ticket belonging to Prayers & Squares, Prayer Quilt Ministry of St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church. “We couldn’t possibly have picked a better winner!”
The Temecula group is a regular contributor to Project Linus blanket drives. Best of all, they are in real need of a new sewing machine. The 7-member volunteer group meets weekly to fulfill prayer requests by creating a quilt that is later carried to the altar for the priest’s blessing before parishioners finish off the quilt by tying threads with a prayer. The quilt is then delivered to the child or adult for whom it was requested so that they are “wrapped in prayers” during a time of need.
Five Prayers & Squares members met with Temecula Valley Sewing Center owner, Brian Gottier, and Queen Claudia of Fairy Godmother Guild** to receive their Janome 3050, which was donated by the manufacturer. Brian gave them a lesson in how to use the machine, which will replace one of Prayers & Squares older models.
Sewing machine-maker, *Janome America has teamed up with Project Linus since 2003 to sponsor Project Linus National Make a Blanket Day every February. Project Linus is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization, which provides security through handmade blankets to traumatized children.
In less than three weeks, local Janome dealer, Temecula Valley Sewing Center, collected over 70 handmade quilts and blankets for distribution by Project Linus volunteers. These included 2 knitted blankets by Pauline, a blind woman in her 70’s and 11 crocheted blankets by 86 year-old Betty, a Wildomar resident.
*The Guild is a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization and supporter of Project Linus. Believing in the power of love to solve society’s challenges, the Fairy Godmother Guild aims to empower women to help all children fulfill the promise of their lives. The Guild fulfills its mission through educational programs and activities, fundraising events including an annual fair with charity auction, blog, newsletter, mentoring and sale of Guild products and services that support children’s charities.
