SmartLyrics.com received over a million hits on March 6th, 2006 after a song titled “It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp” by Three 6 Mafia, performed by actor Terrence Howard in the hip-hop film Hustle and Flow, won an Oscar. The song lyrics stirred controversy because the word “bitches” was approved by the Academy for the first-ever rap performance at the 78th Annual Academy Awards hosted by Jon Stewart.

SmartLyrics.com, about a year and a half old web site, has begun receiving large number of hits even before the announcement of the winning song which continued throughout the following day. The web site did not have any reliability issues and so far none are expected. There are over 560,000 uncensored song lyrics available on the web site “…in languages that we can’t even identify” described in webmaster’s own words. It is safe to assume that the song was not judged by the owner of the web site as “About” section of the web site clearly states “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”.
