KIRKLAND, Wash. – iNetOffice Inc., a Seattle-area Web applications development firm, announced that a Firefox-compatible version of its industry leading online Web editor iNetWord has entered alpha testing and is now available to the public.

Offering a Firefox version means that iNetWord is now cross-browser compatible and available to 95 percent of all Web users, according to the developer, Kirkland, Wash.-based iNetOffice. Category leader Internet Explorer has about an 85 percent share of users, with Mozilla’s Firefox at about 10 percent, according to industry surveys.

“With the launch of our Firefox version, iNetWord is now available for use with all major desktop operating systems – Windows, Apple and Linux,” said Tom Snyder, founder and president of iNetOffice. “iNetWord now reaches 96 percent of all PC users: 90 percent for Windows and three percent each for Apple and Linux.”

Some industry data puts Firefox usage at a much higher level than previously considered, Snyder noted. Data from W3Schools.org, a portal for Internet developers that tracks browser statistics, show that Internet Explorer users comprise 68 percent of its visitors, with Firefox at 24 percent.

iNetWord uses HTML+CSS as its file format, making it the most compatible standards-based, OS and vendor-independent word processor. Thus, iNetWord bridges the gap between document and Web editing, Snyder said, as users can now do both with a single familiar user interface.

iNetWord’s Firefox version, while customized in several important areas, looks and performs exactly the same as the Internet Explorer version, Snyder emphasized. “This version of iNetWord is a real milestone for cross-browser application depth and breadth of functionality,” he said.
