PC Laptops today announced it has hired 26 new employees in a 48-hour period following the closing of Totally Awesome Computers as Phase 1 of PC Laptops’ plans for growth and expansion were completed on Monday, March 6, 2006.

According to PC Laptops, the company began interviewing prospective new employees on the evening of Friday, March 3, following the official closure of Totally Awesome Computers earlier in the day. From Friday evening through Sunday evening PC Laptops interviewed more than 50 prospective employees, the bulk of whom had been previously employed by Totally Awesome Computers, ranging from computer technicians and salespeople to store managers and executives.

“We had more than 35 prospective employees show up at our Sandy store on Friday night right after the initial debriefing at the Jordan Commons movie theaters, and it was absolutely crazy,” said Dan (“The Laptop Man”) Young, president and founder of PC Laptops. “We were going non-stop until 2 a.m. Saturday morning in a job-interviewing process that was like a form of speed-dating, with three of our people – a manager, a sales person and a technician – interviewing each prospective employee. And at the end of every session, we got a ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ from each of our people on the prospective hire. Forty-eight hours later we had 26 new, top-notch employees.”

The 26 new employees have already gone through initial training and indoctrination in everything from how to greet people as they enter each PC Laptops store to company policies on customer service and support.

For example, PC Laptops’ unveiled its “Totally Awesome Customer Support Program” on Monday as an extension of PC Laptops’ long-time, industry-leading “no questions asked” free lifetime labor and service support policy for owners of its self-proclaimed “best laptops on the planet.” Under this new program, PC Laptops will provide owners of computers made by Totally Awesome Computers with free lifetime labor and service support.

“This has been a definite roller-coaster ride the past couple of days,” said Charolee Norton, a newly hired PC Laptops salesperson who was previously employed in a similar role by Totally Awesome Computers. “But I’ve been really impressed by the PC Laptops’ way of doing business. They really take care of their people and they’re definitely customer-focused.”

According to PC Laptops, the company took more than 2,000 phone calls on Monday and Tuesday from owners of Totally Awesome-brand personal computers concerned about ongoing service and support. In addition, more than 200 individuals physically brought Totally Awesome-brand personal computers into PC Laptops stores along the Wasatch Front on Monday and Tuesday for a diagnostics and/or check-up.

“We been slammed,” said Austin Skinner, a newly hired PC Laptops computer technician who had held a similar position with Totally Awesome Computers. “But it’s also been a lot of fun being busy once again, whether I was checking out a computer from Totally Awesome or building a brand-new custom PC from PC Laptops.”

PC Laptops invites owners of Totally Awesome-brand personal computers to bring them into any of the six PC Laptops stores located in Utah along the Wasatch Front mountain range for a free check-up and diagnosis.
