National Downshifting Week Helps You Slow Down & Green Up

March 15, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
Spearheaded by Downshifting Columnist and Broadcaster Tracey Smith, this awareness campaign has been designed to inspire Individuals, Companies, Children and Schools by highlighting ways participants can live simpler, happier lives and be kinder to the environment at the same time.

National Downshifting Week pulls together the threads of simpler living, supporting the local community, endorsing charitable behaviour, the organic approach, positive attitudes towards recycling, perspective on the use of time, investment in the family and more besides. The net result of this benefits the health and welfare of the nation and local and global environments.

Simple suggestions include: -
1) Planting something in the garden to cultivate and eat.
2) Donating and purchasing at a local charity shop.
3) Cutting up a credit card.
4) Taking a day off work to spend exclusively with the one you love.
5) Cooking a simple meal using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, preferably organic.
6) Getting started recycling and composting.

There is also a printable guide, The Downshifting Manifesto, available at the website, www.DownshiftingWeek.com.

The tour will combine visits with successful downshifters, eco-friendly schools, environmental organisations, and good local food producers, with local and national media, promoting the simple route to a more fulfilled existence.

Plans are also being finalised to take this inspirational campaign to tour America this summer, as they prepare to celebrate their 1st National Downshifting Week between 24th and 30th June 2006.
