Urban Spirit – For Hip-hop Honeys

March 23, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Urban Spirit is focussed on selling urban brands for women and children that are part of RnB and Hip-hop culture. Brands available now at www.urbanspirit.co.uk include Rocawear, Baby Phat, Ecko Red, Chipie, Wale Adeyemi and Akademiks. More brands will be available when they officially launch in the UK.

Urban Spirit was borne as a response to the male domination of Hip-hop, and more specifically, Hip-hop urban clothing. Being historically male, Hip-hop has a one dimensional view of women – as sex objects. At Urban Spirit, we do not object to that view as a true Honey is proud to be a sexual creature, however, there are many other sides to us that we also want to cater for. Director, Ibi Orumbie confirms “the ranges sold cover sporty, sexy, sassy and various other looks, so there really is something here for all of our moods!”

As women buy a majority of their children’s clothes, it was logical to sell children’s urban wear. Again, something not easy to find in the UK but badly needed. The kids’ ranges also make great gifts for family and friends.

The delivery of the Urban Spirit brand aims to provide the clothes without dividing Hip-hop fans by race, colour or creed. Other Director, Lola Fayemi notes “In the UK, the music is now commercial but the clothes aren’t, we’re here to redress that balance.”

These days in music, everyone who is anyone has their own clothing range or at least one in the pipeline and many of theses ranges also have celebrity followings. Celeb fans include:

 Rocawear (Charlotte Church, Victoria Beckham, Beyonce)
 Baby Phat (Madonna, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Britney Spears, Ashanti, Halle Berry)
 Wale Adeyemi (Amerie, Estelle, Victoria Beckham, Missy Elliot)
 Ecko Red (Ms Dynamite, Estelle)
 Various brands have also been spotted on Footballer’s Wives.

*Do’s and don’ts of being a Hip-hop Honey Urban Spirit style*

 DO wear your style with attitude. Whatever your style, sex kitten or sporty chick, you must KNOW you look good.
 DO NOT coat yourself in thick make-up. A true honey wears her make-up naturally as she radiates and doesn’t need tons of warpaint!
 DO enjoy yourself. A honey should smile and look approachable not scare men off!
 DO dance like no one’s watching you. A true honey knows how to let her hair down.
 DO wear your figure hugging tracksuit with heels. Just do it, you’ll look hot!
 DO NOT try and hide your curves. If God has blessed you with womanly curves, show them off in fitted gear.
 DO still maintain honey status even though you are a mother. Kit the kids out in Urban Spirit’s children’s ranges.
