SAN FRANCISCO – March 24 – Equipped with paintbrushes, hammers and nails, team members of the San Francisco Bay Hotel Collection geared up for two days of construction work on Habitat for Humanity’s latest project in the city’s Outer Mission neighborhood.

Continuing the Collection’s commitment to support Habitat San Francisco, eight team members volunteered over two days for construction labor, including framing and painting the outside of the new home.

“I had an awesome time,” Mariel Haag, the Collection’s Office Manager, says. “I was nervous because I’ve never done any type of construction work – but it felt great to be outside, working on something as tangible as a house.” Haag, alongside the Collection’s Marketing Manager, Sissy Hemus and Coordinator Serina Correa, strapped into a harness and climbed 15-foot scaffolding to paint the outside of the home.

“For the longest time, I didn’t let go of the roof,” Haag says. “But after a while, you get used to the height and start relaxing. We had a terrific view while we were painting!”

Framing was also on the schedule for the Collection. Balancing on ladders, team members hammered the structure for the roof together. “I hammered so many nails that I started to go through the motion automatically,” Sarah Richardson-Warren, the Collection’s Corporate Group Sales Manager, says. “I did hammer my thumb a few times, but I am definitely a better carpenter now – and I have the bruises to prove it!”

According to Dayna Zeitlin, Area Director of Sales for the Collection, a few bruises were worth the day’s rewards. “When we arrived early this morning, this house had no stairs, the outside walls weren’t painted and the roof needed framing,” she says. “By the time the day was done, we were walking up and down the stairs, one entire side of the house was painted and the bones of the roof were coming together. It was amazing to be a part something so important.”
