ARTISTS AND CRAFTERS DISCOVER A MEDIUM THAT CREATES A NEW DIMENSION IN CRAFTING

April 15, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Laguna Hills, CA – April 15, 2006 – Transparencies primarily used on overhead projectors in schools and offices now become a visible medium in the art and crafts industry. Stampington & Company, the publisher of premier craft magazines, introduces Transparent Art, the first publication to examine the use of transparency film, glass, and other crystalline surface materials in paper and mixed media art today.
The 144-page book focuses strictly on the use of transparent materials emerging in the work of artists and crafters. Transparent Art illustrates the varied techniques – stamping, painting, cutting, sewing and even burning – that can be done on and with acetate transparencies, a clear and glossy plastic made of wood pulp, first introduced in the 1900s.
Transparent Art features projects such as journals, greeting cards, jewelry and quilts, accompanied by full-color photography and instructions on how to fuse the new medium into artwork, creating layers of depth.
The material used for overhead projectors, laminations, film, and as a coating on wings of airplanes in the 1900s, branches out to artists and crafters who want to explore a medium that adds a new dimension in crafting. "As you weave your way through the chapters, you will find yourself looking through a new window that opens to a whole new world," says a contributing artist, Angela Cartwright, child star from the Sound of Music, Lost in Space, and Make Room for Daddy.
Several contributing artists are Nina Bagley, Nancy Curry, Sarah Fishburn, Jill Haddaway, Jen Osborn, Carol Owen, DJ Pettitt, Michelle Ward, and Angela Cartwright. Transparent Art, the first resource to detail the discoveries of artists who took the challenge of experimenting with acetate transparencies, can be found at local craft stores or ordered directly from Stampington & Company via their website, www.stampington.com or calling toll-free (877) 782-6737.
