How to Hire the Right People, Every Time

Stephanie Frank, Business Acceleration Strategist and author of The Accidental Millionaire, notes that there are four primary areas that people express their strengths from. “In building both our internal and external teams, we are very strategic in who we hire for what task,” says Frank.

“By creating an environment where people are working from their strengths, rather than against their weaknesses, and knowing how to communicate accordingly, we have found that we have a lower rate of turnover, less miscommunication and increased productivity.”

According to Frank, people are usually one of the following:

• Idea People
• Strategic People
• Support People
• Detail People

She describes the four styles more in-depth in her best-selling book, and gives the following brief examples for recognizing a person’s personal style.

• Idea People – Creative and influential. They have big ideas, believe in the value of people, know everyone and anyone and are move quickly to the next big idea.

• Strategic People – Self-Assured, driven and high energy. They make decisions quickly, have a tactical, strategic approach and often ask for ‘the bottom line.’

• Support People – Reliable, sees things that others miss, and easygoing. They are highly adaptive, like to be part of the team, and seek to promote harmony within an organization.

• Detail People – Quality-oriented, pays attention to detail and maintains security. They follow directives and standards and make decisions based on detailed, researched facts.

“Many business owners tend to hire people who are ‘like me’ or ‘who share the vision’ of the company. We intentionally hire people who have different working styles. By doing so, and learning how to communicate within each of those styles, we have seen our growth explode.”
