Syracuse Student Film Selected for New York International Film/Video Festival

(PRLEAP.COM) SYRACUSE, NY – Cinematic history is being made right here in Central New York as local student filmmaker, Tom O’Malley, prepares to head to New York City for the International Film and Video Festival this spring. Tom’s latest short film, A Dionysian Affair, was shot this past summer at area locations such as Mama Nancy’s Restaurant and the historic Palace Theater. The twenty-two year old is currently studying Art Video at Syracuse University and is a life-long resident of Syracuse, having graduated from ES-M High School in 2002.

A Dionysian Affair stars O.C.C. professor and established theatrical actor Justin Busch opposite Nicholas Scipione, a recent graduate of the LeMoyne College philosophy department. Together, these two tackle a plot full of original philosophical and psychoanalytical ideas while commenting on subjects such as family, capitalism and mental illness.

“The goal was to create a film that can be enjoyed on multiple intellectual levels.” Says director Tom O’Malley. “The script contains all the pieces necessary to complete the puzzle but was strategically written to please everyone, including those who chose not to accept the challenge the plot presents.”

A Dionysian Affair has been selected by a Las Vegas board of jurors to play at the New York International Film and Video festival May 6th at the Village East Cinemas in New York City. This particular festival has been recognized by the entertainment industry as one of the leading film events on the festival calendar. NYIIFVF will feature many global entries, including, Australia, Baghdad, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Holland, Iceland, India, Ireland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Tunisia, the UK and all over the US.
