New Website Publishes Candid, Graduate-Written School Reviews

Can schools be reviewed by users, just like hotels? A new website, SchoolShark.com, aims to find out. Launched earlier this month, SchoolShark.com collects, screens, and publishes graduate and alumni-written reviews of educational institutions.

SchoolShark.com will cover colleges, graduate schools, test prep centers, law schools, business schools, and other educational institutions. The site takes the position that the true merits of a school aren't known until a graduate has had the chance to use what he or she has learned in the real world, or in further academic pursuits. As such, SchoolShark.com accepts reviews from alumni only. Opinions from current students are neither solicited nor published.

SchoolShark.com has a strong pedigree. It shares a parent company with HotelShark.com, the hotel reviews website that the New York Times recently praised for its trustworthiness. The New York Times piece ran on February 7, 2006, and was entitled "Hotel Reviews Online: In Bed With Hope, Half-Truths and Hype."

Prospective students will come to rely on SchoolShark.com to help them find unvarnished, authoritative reviews on schools in which they may enroll.
