USA and China exchange through an online exhibition, IMPRESSIONS

(PRLEAP.COM) IMPRESSIONS online at:

This project is a collaboration between students in China and America under the instruction of Tom R. Chambers at Zhaoqing University (Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, China) and Kathleen Ruiz at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, New York, U.S.A.).

These moving, mental images of America and China seem to be based on historical events and what’s read about the countries [cultures/policies] either as news or research rather than preconceived ideas. The Chinese students are preoccupied with America as a warmonger with a focus on 911, peace, sex and freedom, whereas the American students focus on Chinese culture, Kung Fu, architecture [old vs new] with an additional political focus on ‘made in China’ and ‘the trade deficit’. Generally, the works are benevolent, which indicates a desire for understanding and exchange between two countries that for so long have been polarized.
