Product Excellence and Corporate Expansion During Last Quarter Fuels Webroot Software's Continued Growth

BOULDER, Colo., May 27, 2006 – A series of major product awards and top-rated reviews, an R&D expansion, and the addition of three new veterans to an already seasoned management team fueled Webroot Software’s continued growth during the last quarter, the company announced today. Webroot Software is the creator and publisher of the award-winning Spy SweeperTM line of anti-spyware products for consumers, small businesses and enterprises worldwide.

Webroot set a new standard for product excellence during the first quarter of 2006 when the company secured a flawless record of both consumer and enterprise product reviews and awards. Both of the company’s anti-spyware products, Spy Sweeper and Spy Sweeper Enterprise, secured first place rankings in all the major anti-spyware product reviews including: PC Magazine’s "Editors' Choice Award," PC Pro’s "PC Pro Recommended" Award, Windows IT Pro’s "Enterprise Anti-Spyware Roundup Winner and SC Magazine’s "Best Buy" Best Overall Anti-Malware Solution” and “Best Anti-Spyware Solution” awards.

Webroot also received third-party validation from VeriTest, a testing service of Lionbridge (NASDAQ:LIOX), that Spy Sweeper Enterprise was more than three times as effective as Sunbelt and nearly twice as effective as McAfee at cleaning all types of spyware. Webroot was also named the first recipient of the Anti-Spyware Checkmark Certification by West Coast Labs.

Webroot’s recognition for product excellence reached beyond the media and into the minds of consumers and enterprises as well. A report by The NPD Group for January 2006 found that Webroot had the number one share of Distributor security sales in January, displacing Symantec from the top slot. Additionally, a separate report by The NPD Group for March 2006 showed that Webroot advanced into the second place spot in terms of Publisher dollar volume in the Systems Utilities Software category, this time displacing McAfee. Webroot has also secured the top spot on the enterprise side according to a recent report by analyst firm The Radicati Group. In the report entitled “Corporate Anti-Spyware Market 2006-2010”, The Radicati Group ranked Webroot number one in terms of overall revenue and for the desktop anti-spyware installed base.

"The high-level industry validation that we received during the last quarter has reinforced what our customers have been telling us for years – that Webroot offers the best anti-spyware software on the market,” said David Moll, CEO of Webroot Software. “But while we’re excited to see our efforts recognized, our number one priority remains protecting consumers, small businesses and enterprises from the ever-evolving spyware problem.”

The first quarter of 2006 was also extremely significant for Webroot in terms of corporate expansion – both internally and externally. In January, Webroot announced the opening of a new Advanced Technology Development Center based in Silicon Valley to focus on the continued development of cutting-edge security solutions and services to combat the latest malware threats. The new technology center works in tandem with Webroot’s highly-regarded research and development offices in Boulder, Colorado and is overseen by Webroot’s CTO and SVP of Engineering Gerhard Eschelbeck. Eschelbeck, a renowned network security expert, joined Webroot in January. Webroot also named a new CFO, Josh Pace, and added Paul Lipman, the Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Business Sales.

The official introduction of the company’s much-anticipated Channel Edge Partner Program in late February was another success marker. The flourishing channel program led to an increase in reseller partners for Webroot and a substantial increase in the company’s overall channel business.

"Last quarter Webroot successfully expanded our company’s footprint through a number of ground-breaking programs and developments. Looking forward, we will continue our aggressive rollout of products and services to further protect Internet users across the globe," added Moll.
