ArtinSoft CEO Carlos Araya Captures Audience’s Interest During PARC Forum Presentation

Palo Alto, California. ArtinSoft CEO Dr. Carlos Araya impressed the crowd during a presentation at the famed Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) entitled “Migrating Legacy Software to New Technologies” this past Thursday, April 27th in the George E. Pake Auditorium.
The presentation emphasized the opportunity presented by multi-core processors, and focused on technology and processes that can be used to cope with the migration as well as the re-architecture of legacy code in a cost-efficient way.
During the presentation, Dr. Araya presented the underlying concepts around the automated, state-of-the-art technology developed by ArtinSoft and explained how it is applicable to several languages; he also provided examples about the discovery and separation of functionality-aiming multi-layers and componentized architectures.
“We intend to raise some questions regarding the relationships between code separation for multi-layer architecture and separation for multi-threading purposes that might be convenient for multi-core processors,” said Araya.
One of the most important, red-hot issues touched upon by Dr. Araya was how to enable legacy applications to take advantage of multi-core processors. Dr. Araya emphasized that “while hardware continues to evolve at breakneck speed, new and current software continues to be the problem, because it does not make proper use the existing technological resources.”

Responses to the presentation were positive. Some of the attendees were very enthusiastic: “The topics you have covered are very timely and can be taken advantage of if approached effectively” one audience member told ArtinSoft later. “[After] you develop an engine which can migrate from old to new with low effort in a short period of time, then you will be the center of both IT customer as well as IT company interest.”

The trailblazing presentation explored a usable approach to legacy code evolution through the use of technology and methods to adapt the generated code to new paradigms. “This needs to be researched further,” said Araya to the attendees, “to see legacy source code can take advantage of multi-core benefits.”
