T-Mobile’s library, powered by Open Mind, features in The Guardian

May 06, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
In an article in The Guardian newspaper (‘Required reading’, 24th April), Catherine Quinn revealed research by the TUC which showed that only 23 per cent of UK companies provide library or book club facilities at work. She went on to examine one of these forward-looking companies: T-Mobile.

T-Mobile has developed a learning centre at its Hatfield head office and also makes its resources available remotely to its staff in other branches – to support its training programmes. In addition to two or three copies of each business book, there are video- and audio-based learning materials.

Nikki Wright, T-Mobile’s on-site training administrator, is responsible for choosing and sourcing materials for the library. She takes recommendations from T-Mobile staff and from Open Mind, the UK’s largest distributor of learning resources and T-Mobile’s preferred supplier for all learning resources

Wright commented: “It’s useful to have the extra input. Open Mind knows the topics we’re interested in, so they ring up and say, ‘You should consider having this book on your shelves’.”

According to Alun Harvey, of Open Mind, which is frequently referred to by customers as the ‘Trainers’ Toyshop’: “We are able to give our customers access to over 10,000 learning resources in all forms of delivery media – from ‘hi-tech’ online, DVD and CD-ROM programmes, through the ‘traditional’ video programmes to books and audio tapes. We even offer games and ice-breaking activities.”
