National Smile Month is just around the corner, so it's time to shape up those teeth to sparkle.
A recent survey conducted by The American Academy Of Cosmetic Dentistry revealed the following results when cosmetic dentists were asked to vote for their favourite celebrity smiles:

Halle Berry came out tops for best female celebrity smile, whilst Matthew McConaughey was voted best male celebrity smile.Golf legend Tiger Woods scored the hole in one, swooping the vote for male athelete with the best smile whilst Maria Sharpova aced the vote for best female athelete's smile.Julia Roberts wins the day as the celebtity with the most requested smile whilst Hilary Duff sports the best teen celebrity smile, according to the cosmetic dentists surveyed.

Celebrity smiles, however, are no longer the preserve of the rich and the famous;it's never been easier to find a cosmetic dentist who will whiten your teeth or offer solutions in cosmetic dentistry.
Dr.Aneu Sood, principal dentist of the Cosmetic White Smiles team in Derby,UK(www.cosmeticwhitesmiles.co.uk) has trained alongside some of the world’s leading dentists in cosmetic dentistry.
'The results and durability of any cosmetic procedure depend largely on the expertise and talent of the dentist, so choosing a good one is crucial.'advises Dr.Sood.

According to the British Dental Association, demand for cosmetic dentistry has tripled in the past two years. However, it is not recognised as a separate specialisation in the UK so any qualified dentist can carry out cosmetic work without necessarily being very good at it.
Teeth Whitening is even being offered to clients in salons and clinics in the UK by unregulated individuals who do not even carry any dental qualifications to perform such procedures.Lack of regulation means such treatments continue to be offered and performed on unsuspecting individuals, sometimes with dire consequences.

So how do you find the right cosmetic dentist, whether it be for a quick-fix teeth whitening treatment smile or for more complicated and costly cosmetic dentistry such as a complete smile makeover, implants or veneers?

Dr.Sood makes the following recommendations:

The American’s do lead the world in cosmetic dentistry. If your dentist has accreditation from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists (AACD) he’s carried out the necessary training for cosmetic dentistry and is probably a good bet.

Be sure to find a cosmetic dentist who will listen to your needs.A good cosmetic dentist should offer consultations so be prepared to discuss how you feel about your smile on a one-to –one basis and what changes you would like to make to achieve your desired outcome.

Ask to see the cosmetic dentists ‘before’ and ‘after’ photographs of work carried out on other clients.

Ask for references. An accomplished cosmetic dentist will be proud to share with you the names of other consenting clients who have received the benefits of similar treatments.

Ask the cosmetic dentist how he/she keeps up-to-date with new technology and post-graduate education in cosmetic dentistry.

Be sure to find a cosmetic dentist who matches your personality and whom you can relate to.

Expect the cosmetic dentist to recommend all your different treatment options to you accompanied by a detailed report and price breakdown, prior to commencing any treatment.

'The demand for cosmetic dental procedures has seen a huge increase over the last few years. Teeth and beautiful smiles have become the latest focus in the quest for physical perfection,' says Dr Sood,
'But it is essential that you carry out some research on your cosmetic dentist and your procedure before embarking on any costly and time-consuming cosmetic dentistry.'
