Scuba Cat Diving recently hosted Alex, Maz and Martin of Team Overland- Underwater during their stop-over in Phuket, Thailand. The team is presently driving overland from England to New Zealand to raise awareness for the important work undertaken by CARE International as well as to raise funds for CARE through donations and pledges. Avid scuba divers, the team also goes underwater whenever possible.

After a long drive down through Asia in their trusty 4x4 Land Cruiser the team welcomed both the relaxation and excitement of a four day liveaboard dive trip on m/v Scuba Adventure. During this past month Phuket has been the world hotspot for Manta Ray encounters and this trip did not disappoint: divers thrilled with spectacular Manta interactions on 9 of the 14 scheduled dives, often lasting for almost the entire dive.

Next on the agenda was a one day fund raising trip to the Racha Islands south of Phuket. Scuba Cat Diving donated 10% of the trip’s income to CARE while a number of our guests followed suit. Our friends from the UK had had enough Manta action and now need a fix of sunken steel; it was with pride and pleasure that we made a dive on Marla’s Mystery for an enjoyable photo session and viewing of our artificial reef.

The five day diving extravaganza was rounded off by a Bar-B-Que at Scuba Cat’s Club Pub in Patong Beach. A fun time was had by all and more generous donations were made to CARE. It was fun to hear of the team’s travels and future destinations - divers in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand should try and catch up with the team and join in the adventure!
