Darcy Wright is changing things at Tri-City Medical Center, a 397-bed acute care hospital in Oceanside, California. She’s also saving them money. Wright is in charge of the Professional Mentor Program, a cutting edge initiative geared towards fostering supportive learning in the nursing ranks. Wright has grown the program from 20 trained mentors to over 65. Her mentors can be found in ICU, OR, Emergency, Telemetry, Maternal Child Health, Acute Care Services, Pulmonary, and Hospice.

Wright has helped create a nurturing environment by partnering new RNs with nurse mentors. Mentors are empowered through interactive workshops aimed at improving communication, constructive feedback, and emotional intelligence. Dedicated mentors have increased retention rates of new hires by over 10%. The program was initially intended for new nurses but has expanded to Allied Health Care professionals such as respiratory therapists and social workers.

Wright also directs Tri-City’s Leadership College. Workshops teach enlightened leadership practices to front line supervisors, managers, and directors.

Darcy Wright is a graduate of UC San Diego. She received her MBA from San Diego State University’s Executive Management Program.
