Troy, NY – May 17, 2006 – Ryan-Biggs Associates, P.C., was named winner of the 2006 Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award from the New York State Society of Professional Engineers for its work on the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a national historical landmark, in Albany, New York. Mesick Cohen Wilson Baker Architects of Albany was the project architect. Western Building Restoration of Albany was the restoration contractor. The Owner is the Diocese of Albany; Reverend William Pape represented the diocese.

The magnificent brownstone underwent an internationally significant restoration. Prior to the restoration, the stone deterioration was so severe it created safety concerns requiring the installation of sidewalk protection. The work encompassed most severely deteriorated areas, which included the north tower and the upper sanctuary walls and parapets. The work consisted of replacing the original brownstone facing with new brownstone properly oriented with the bedding planes horizontal.

The project was evaluated on its originality and innovation, applications of engineering principles, and contributions to human, environmental, and social needs. The award will be presented at the Installation and Awards Reception at the New York State Society of Professional Engineers Annual Convention in White Plains on June 2.
