New Online Community for Substance Addicts

Sobering Thought is a new online community for recovering substance abusers. Joining the site is free and members are able to maintain a personal blog, interact with each other in message forums, and access related news and other resources.

Inspired by the challenges faced by their own friends and family members in recovery, Darrel Farris and Frank Schaffarczyk, owners of FND Enterprises and creators of the site, seek to provide an open space where addicts can write about and support one another through their recovery process.

“Therapeutic writing and peer support are the key angles of the site. We hope the anonymity of the Internet helps to strip the shame from sharing one’s emotions and experiences they might feel initially at meetings or in other face-to-face scenarios,” said Farris.

Schaffarczyk adds, “The flip side is that non-addicts or people who have relationships with addicts can read through the site and hopefully gain some insight on what their loved ones might be going through.”
