Cinema Diaspora Launches ReelYouth Cultural Media Awareness Program on Saturday January 22, 2005

(PRLEAP.COM) On January 21st, Cinema Diaspora’s Reel Youth Program launches, with support from the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, Pratt Fine Arts Center, and Iwasil Boys & Girls Club, the ReelYouth: One Person, One Camera, One Partner: Three Stories, providing 24 locally selected Native-American and African-American youth ages 14-18 a year long self-examination experience utilizing historical studies, cultural awareness, science, arts, and media to build self-awareness, self-esteem, and diverse life-skills.

One Person, One Camera, One Partner: Three Stories. An evolutionary multi media program designed with three objectives in mind to: 1) Recover through history the identities of the African and Native Americans establishing a platform for learning 2) Self Discovery through research to create a basis of understanding where they will be encouraged to journal, question and think; 3) Re-Define who they are in this society and in this life from a positive base thereby creating a positive foundation for community relations and appreciation. This exciting program integrates culture, history, and media to bring youth into focus on issues critical and common between diverse and often misunderstood populations and their commonalities between each other.

Youth will be introduced to cultural and genetic research methods, cultural awareness orientation and recovery, traditional ceremony and transformation, video production, web-based and graphic design, photography, and community service.
