Celebrating Juneteen, a historical day for African Americans, BWOPA’s Training Institute for Leadership Enrichment (TILE) is proud to present its annual community Town Hall Meeting “Understanding Our History & Creating Our Legacy - A Holistic Approach to Challenges We All Face”.

The Town Hall and Symposium will cover the history of African Americans and the relationship to the critical issues, myths and barriers related to mental health and overall well-being. Panel experts will provide insight on the connection between mental, emotional, nutritional and physical health.

The forum will connect attendees with health and wellness professionals and organizations to examine ways to revise daily management and coping strategies. Discussions will highlight how lifestyle choices impacts physical illnesses— including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, high-blood pressure, ulcers, chronic headaches and insomnia, asthma, STDs (sexually transmitted diseases,) HIV and AIDS— can stem from:

•Depression, anxiety and mood disorders
•Stress-related issues arising from social and economic pressures
•Poor diet, nutrition, and eating disorders
•Lack of exercise and physical activity
•Substance abuse— drugs, alcohol and tobacco
•Risky or unsafe sexual behavior

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in 45-minute breakout sessions to further explore their interest areas to share their experiences and again wisdom for identifying and adopting healthy solutions and revised coping strategies on how to bring body, mind and spirit into balanced health.

The resource area of local service providers, counselors and programs will also offer a variety of information and resources for ongoing program support and assistance.
