ITeG 2006: ICW Presents Interoperable Electronic Physician’s Letter

May 31, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News

As a member of the VHitG Initiative Intersectoral Communication, the solutions of InterComponentWare AG (ICW) already implement the new interoperable electronic physician’s letter: At the ITeG trade fair the eHealth specialist shows how electronic physician’s letters can be reproduced and stored in the personal electronic health record LifeSensor and the virtual patient file of the hospital network solution ICW ProfessionalGate.

Until now physician’s letters have usually been sent by email as simple graphics or PDF documents. Under the VHitG specification, they are available as highly structured documents from which information can be transferred automatically to the treatment context of the recipient.

In the personal health record LifeSensor the physician’s letters created in information systems of doctor’s practices or hospitals can be displayed and stored in an organized manner. By this, ICW provides the basis for making the structured information contained in the physician’s letters available over the long term to physicians providing further care. For example, diagnoses or medication data from electronic physician’s letters can be transferred directly to the IT systems of clinics or General Practitioners who treat the patient at a later point in time.

The virtual patient file of the hospital network solution ICW ProfessionalGate now reproduces not only conventional forms of data such as DICOM or PDF but also electronic physician’s letters that have been created on the basis of HL7 V3 CDA R2 in accordance with the new VHitG specification.
