DATELINE: BRAINTREE, MA… The South Shore Caregiving Collaborative, a group of diversified agencies committed to assisting family caregivers, is offering a caregiver fitness forum on Thursday, June 15th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at New England Friends Home, 86 Turkey Hill Lane in Hingham, MA.

The FREE forum, “The Role of Exercise in the Caregiver’s Well-Being: Mission Impossible or Achievable Goal?” is geared toward educating caregivers on how to achieve better health and reduce stress through exercise. A light dinner is included.

Wayne L. Westcott, Ph.D., CSCS, Fitness Research Director at the South Shore YMCA, will discuss the feasibility of exercise options that caregivers can easily do at home.
Dr. Westcott shares his professional expertise and discusses how caregivers can achieve good health and reduce stress through exercises that can be done in 20 minutes at home in as few as two times per week. Special attention is given to practical, safe, effective and time-efficient ways to meet caregivers’ needs.

The program is made possible in part by a grant from Blue Hills Community Health Alliance, South Shore Hospital and Shields MRI of Massachusetts.

“It’s not that caregivers don’t want to reduce stress and maintain their own health; it’s just that caregivers already have long to-do lists but very little time, particularly for themselves and their own well being. But the caregiver’s health is just as important as the person’s for whom they care and in fact, directly affects the care that one can deliver,” explained Donna Ciappina of South Shore Elder Services.

To pre-register for the Forum or for more information, please call Donna Ciappina at South Shore Elder Services at 781-848-3910, ext 335.
