A new website, Breastfeedingmums.com, owned and maintained by qualified teacher, Sinead Hoben, has seen steady growth since its launch in April 2006. Having already attained top ten positions on a number of Google searches, including the coveted number one position for 'breastfeeding information and advice', it looks sure to become a welcome source of information and advice for both mums-to be and expectant mums.

Drawing on her own experiences as a breastfeeding mother, Sinead felt it was becoming increasingly important to help new mums through what can initially be a trying experience for the whole family.

"Breastfeeding is a normal, healthy way to nourish your newborn baby but all too often women give up in the crucial early days due to lack of support from family, friends and even the medical profession.

"Few women nowadays have been fortunate enough to witness a baby being breastfed so the whole idea of it is alien to many young women," she states.

"If new mothers are to feel comfortable breastfeeding, and become competent and confident breastfeeders, then it is vital that there is a supportive network in place.

"To this end, it is great to see many baby cafes and breastfeeding support groups springing up, but the support of family, friends and society is also vital if breastfeeding is to be seen as the norm rather than the exception.

"It was for this reason that I started www.breastfeedingmums.com. I wanted to provide a supportive, informative and useful website where new mums could access much needed information from someone who has been through it all."

And so far things are looking encouraging. Sinead is receiving a constant stream of visitors and regularly replies personally to women seeking advice.

"Unfortunately, new mums often worry about being seen as silly if they ask questions to professional care-givers. The anonymity offered by the internet changes that. Mums open up and express their worries. Often they only need some reassurance from a friendly stranger. And that can be enough to spur them on to continue breastfeeding.

"Of course, sometimes women do need to speak to their GP or health visitor about conditions such as thrush, mastitis or postnatal depression. Breastfeedingmums.com is simply a first port of call and I always urge those women to make an appointment with their healthcare provider."

As breastfeeding slowly becomes more acceptable and more places offer breastfeeding facilities, www.breastfeedingmums.com provides much-needed information and advice to those mothers thinking about breastfeeding or already breastfeeding.

"Encouragement makes such a difference. By empowering women and giving them the confidence to ask questions and to attempt to breastfeed, society as a whole will benefit.

"Breastfeeding gives babies the best possible start in life. And it also has many health benefits for mums too. Breastfeeding is making a comeback and Breastfeedingmums.com is leading the way with over fifty original articles covering everything from health benefits to feeding in public!

"I want to shift perceptions and make breastfeeding easy for modern mums!" smiles Sinead, returning to her desk where the breastfeeding articles are composed, edited and uploaded for the benefit of breastfeedingmums of the world! ######
