Chicago Punk Rockers Tapped as Secret Navy Weapon - Then Get Ready to Release Record
Three just graduated high school and two are still doing time there - yet Store Bought Rebels caught the attention of top brass at the United States Navy, landing them a coveted government contract to fly out to Southern California and surprise the troops. Once there, they stormed the Blue Angels amphitheater stage thrilling the massed Naval Aviators and Marines. Their headlining set was louder than the screaming engines of the fighters zipping overhead and stood up just fine to their sonic booms.
Now shopping their first full length record, executives from Sanctuary, Immortal and others are showing serious interest in the young, hard hitting punk outfit hailing from Chicago, Illinois. Over the last two years the Rebels have taken Chicago audiences by storm drawing large crowds to clubs all over the city. Their live show and hard work has landed them spots on stage with acts including the Misfits, the Dead Kennedys, the Tossers and has put them on sold out bills at the House of Blues in Chicago. In the fall of 2006, they will release an entirely self-made record as a culmination of the group’s dedication to their craft.
Store Bought Rebels create melodically driven, socially conscious punk and alternative rock. They meld hook laden melodies and emotional lyrics with the driving aggression born in the roots of punk rock creating a fresh original sound, drawing inspiration from a range of artists including Bad Religion, Tsunami Bomb, Nirvana, and Queens of the Stone Age.
When demand from their fans led the group to put their material to tape, they decided to keep the artistic control of an indie record with the production quality of a major. To help them with this task, they tapped producer Doug McBride of Chicago’s famous Gravity Studios. Such chart topping bands as Smashing Pumpkins and Rise Against have used the studio, and McBride’s credits there include current chart toppers, Fallout Boy and longtime hit-maker R. Kelly. SBR and McBride became a strong team and spent months, working around the bands school schedules, putting together their first full-length record.
Initial cuts from the album, put into limited circulation by the band’s Los Angeles management firm, Sabre Entertainment, caught a lot of music industry and public attention. One of the first reactions came from the United States Navy. Store Bought Rebels were hand selected to travel from Chicago to El Centro Naval Air Facility outside of San Diego, CA. Store Bought Rebels performed a headlining set to entertain the troops at their annual base picnic.
The record has garnered quite a bit of record label interest, and the band is currently courting their options for national distribution. This fall, you can expect to see the full Store Bought Rebels album on the streets. In the mean time, fans can check out the music at
