It’s official—local freelance writer Krissy Brady has finally joined the many who write their fingers to the bone each year to support the Muskoka Literacy Council.

“I’ve been meaning to take part ever since the Novel Marathon launched, I swear!” jokes Brady. “You would not believe the dorky storylines I kept thinking of though—I just couldn’t put the judges through reading them.

“After reading about this year’s Marathon, it was the strangest thing,” she continues. “As soon as I read the news piece, an entire plotline entered my mind and I haven’t been able to shake it.”

Brady has been working hard towards her career choice ever since she graduated from Gravenhurst High School in 2002. She has written for such local publications as the Gravenhurst Banner, Muskoka Today, and the Muskoka Times, as well as international publications such as CosmoGirl!, Seventeen, and TeenWire.com. She is the owner of Brady Magazine, an online writer’s trade directory dedicated to putting writers on the map, which for the past two years has been recognized as one of the top 101 websites for writers by Writer’s Digest magazine.

In November 2006, her first poetry book is launching, thanks to Rain Publishing of Burlington.

“Poetry has and always will be my favourite genre of writing,” states Brady, “Though I am crossing over into fiction for the Marathon.”

The Muskoka Novel Marathon is a three-day short novel writing contest hosted by the Muskoka Literacy Council which takes place July 14-16 in Hunsville as a fringe event of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts.
