The week includes media parties, a red carpet benefit gala and accessory expo. Fashion industry professionals, celebrities, fashionistas and the press will arrive to line the catwalks showcasing leading edge and innovative styles, trends, color palettes and accessories for 2007.

Though Palm Springs continues its tradition as a great resort destination, it was once known as a trendsetter for fashion sense and style. “Over the years, that reputation was lost to the ball-caps, t-shirts and shorts of the 80's” says president and founder of Palm Springs Fashion Week, R. Christian Anderson, “With an exciting new interest in fashion both in the media and retail markets, great style and design are back in a big way. I felt producing a full-scale fashion week right here in Palm Springs was the ideal way for the city to reclaim its legacy for fashion.”

He shared his vision with friend Joy White and she agreed the impact could be significant for the image of Palm Springs worldwide. The perception of the city as a romantic, desirable and fashionable destination benefits the community by increased tourism, enhanced civic pride and ultimately, the quality of life. The events themselves directly benefit local business, promote commerce and create opportunities for philanthropy. The associates from his company, R. Christian Anderson Media and her company, Wallace-White Weddings and Events, Inc. came together to create Palm Springs Fashion Week, Inc.

“The response we are getting from those in the desert and in the fashion community has been remarkable. We're thrilled Palm Springs Fashion Week is being embraced so profoundly.” Anderson adds, “We have been approached by some amazing people who want to sponsor us, volunteer or be involved in some way. I believe the enthusiasm is there because this is a world-class event. Many residents of the desert also have homes in New York, London or Paris and they understand the significance and importance Palm Springs Fashion Week will have for the city.”

In addition to spectacular catwalk shows, a red carpet benefit gala is scheduled for the Palm Springs Air Museum on Saturday November 18 and attendance is expected to exceed 600 people. A sparkling “Fashionista Dance Party”, invitational dinners and media events at some of the city's most quintessential locations are in place. All events intentionally scheduled within the city of Palm Springs. Most events will benefit charities for children. “We want to share the spirit of what makes Palm Springs extraordinary.” affirms Anderson, who quotes the great Coco Chanel: “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
