CALLING ALL CAMP SOMERSET GIRLS! It’s Time to Reunite – Not Just Once, But Thrice!

New York, NY, – Calling all Camp Somerset Girls! If you were a female camper or counselor at Camp Somerset for Girls in Oakland, Maine, anytime between 1898 and 1986 or know someone who was, we’re looking for you!

Sponsored by the owners of the nearby boys’ camp, Camp Manitou is launching a website, www.Somersetresurrect.com, today to help gather email addresses and additional pertinent information of former Somerset campers to build a (private) database to put former campers back in touch with one another online. Using this information, Camp Manitou is going to create two in-person reunions, one at Camp Manitou at the end of this summer (date TBD), and another in New York City, sometime in the next year.

According to Jon Deren, co-owner of Camp Manitou, “Since Camp Somerset used to be one of our neighbors, and many of the women come back to visit the area each summer, we thought it would be great to host a reunion here at our camp. In addition, we’re sponsoring an online reunion by building a website to connect everyone initially, and then hosting an even bigger reunion later in New York City for those who can’t make it up to camp. We’re looking forward to having the women share their wonderful camp memories with each other and with us.”

Jocelyn Brandeis, one of the women spearheading this reunion in conjunction with Camp Manitou and also a former Somerset Girl (1980-1984), said, “When Jon came to me with this idea, I was so excited; I immediately called a few of my former camp friends and told them that we had to get involved. It’s been 20 years since Camp Somerset closed and we’re definitely due for a reunion! It would be a thrill to see what everyone has been up to.”
