Jesus played catch, says on Christian baseball writer.

PITTSBURGH (W.) — Did you see any parables in last night's baseball game?

Author Hugh Poland probably did. Poland, author of"Steal Away," said there's Christian lessons to be learned from the game.

"It’s sort of the book I've always wanted to read that I couldn’t find anywhere," he told WordNews.org.

Baseball is full of examples—both good and bad. There are "the guys who say they can’t make ends meet on $10 million a year. 'I’ve got a family to feed.' But then you run into the guys that are more humble and really do have their feet grounded. And one of the reasons they're so grounded is they have a walk with Christ and that’s what keeps them from believing all the press clippings and keeps them going home to the same women at night and loving their kids and all that."

Poland said he took a page out of Jesus' storytelling practice.

"He was a master storyteller. He spoke in parables and told stories. That’s what his followers related to. When Jesus wanted to teach a truth about the kingdom, He'd toss alongside a story and it would further illustrate what He was talking about. The very word parable means to throw alongside of. It's almost as if He was playing a game of spiritual catch, I think, with His followers. 'See if you can get this one. Catch this.' That was His MO and I think people obviously remembered the stories and understood the spiritual parallels. Some of them did and some of them didn't."
