(Los Angeles, CA)—Researchers are anxious to start surfing the new University of California at San Francisco’s Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Center website, www.escells.ucsf.edu, designed by JUNGLE 8/creative, a leading design firm located in Los Angeles. This project marks JUNGLE 8’s foray into the academic arena. Historically rich in design work for non-profits and entertainment industry clients, JUNGLE 8 is proving that it is capable of delivering quality design for a wide range of clientele.

The J8 methodology works for any type of project, creating design work that can meet any need and match any taste. “The secret is listening, and more listening,” expounds JUNGLE 8 Project Manager Alicia Larry. “In order to generate good work, we must really understand the client. And understanding requires listening, much more than pitching, presenting or selling. Once we understand our client, we can create a ‘look and feel’ to meet their needs and match their style.”

Co-directed by Renee Reijo-Pera, PhD, and Susan L. Fisher, PhD, the UCSF hESC Research Center is a combined effort between the Institute for Regeneration Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. As explained on the new website’s homepage, the center is “dedicated to exploring the basics of human development by applying a combination of genetic, proteomic, cell biology, molecular and biochemical methods to gain answers to fundamental questions in the hESC field.”

“Just because the site is scientific in nature, it doesn’t have to be stark and bland,” said Fred Moore, PhD, who spearheaded the project for UCSF. “Our goal is to create a more pleasurable user experience, and JUNGLE 8 has exceeded our highest expectations. We feel that the fresh design elements and clean content layout will increase ease of use and ultimately increase the number of users.”

The project consists of a complete makeover, including a new content management system, a new administrative approval system, new imagery and a new logo. All of these elements are expertly orchestrated to develop and solidify the UCSF hESC Research Center’s brand presence and functionality requirements. “We are pleased that the scientific community recognizes the importance of quality design work, and we are excited to see how well it will be received by the end users,” exclaims Heyward Bracey, Creative Director and designer of the new logo. “I think the scientific community will be pleasantly surprised to experience quantitative information presented on such an esthetically pleasing and user-friendly platform.”
