JayBoy, Inc. , Richmond’s hottest new entertainment promoter, has teamed up with Richmond’s Fan Free Clinic to bring Richmond out on Sunday nights for hot fun and entertainment at Mars Bar in downtown Shockoe Bottom.
If you ask JayBoy himself, President and CEO of JayBoy, Inc. , the main idea behind Sunday is quite simple. “Richmond has been very limited for quite some time when it comes to a night life, especially on Sunday nights,” JayBoy says. “So, with that in mind, we want to provide fun and excitement that says the party doesn’t always have to end because it’s Sunday.
JayBoy, a Richmond native since 1984, chose Mars Bar for one particular reason. The diversity. “I’ve been going out in Richmond since I was 17, so I know how limited the diversity of the crowd can be when you’re limited to just one atmosphere,” JayBoy says. “I fell in love with Mars Bar from the very beginning because of the atmosphere it provides, the very well diverse crowd it brings, and the ability to go to Mars Bar and have a blast without dealing with issues you would normally have to deal with at other clubs. No labels, no drama, just an awesome time.”
JayBoy hopes that by increasing the awareness of Mars Bar, especially on Sunday nights, this will bring out new faces and crowds that normally don’t go out to the other clubs. “I want the guy that says he never comes out, the girl that has never been out before because she doesn’t feel comfortable going to the other club, THAT’S what I’m after, those are the people I want to come out.” JayBoy hopes that by continuing Mars Bar’s bedrock principal of not having a cover charge and on most nights, having the entry age set at 18 and up, this will also give the younger crowd a place to dance as well.
In other efforts to support the local community, JayBoy, Inc. has also partnered with Richmond’s Fan Free Clinic. Fan Free Clinic, a United Way Partner Agency and Richmond lifeline since 1970, provides medical treatment, health education, and social services to those in the Richmond area with limited access to care.
“We wanted to bring Fan Free Clinic onboard,” JayBoy says, “To help raise medical awareness as well as future financial support for the organization, and what better a demographic location and target area than at Mars Bar.”
Fan Free Clinic will be onsite to provide free information and consulting at Mars Bar, as well as future activities and events currently being developed.
If you ask JayBoy himself, what he considers his biggest drive behind his current task at hand, his answer is very simple. “I want Richmond to have fun. If we can pack a club on Sunday nights with the biggest crowds, that’s awesome. By bringing Fan Free Clinic onboard, we are not only promoting fun and excitement on Sunday nights, but we are also helping to bring awareness to this wonderful organization. There are big plans ahead for Richmond within the next few months, so with that being said, now’s the time to jump on the band wagon!”
