Brady Magazine Partners with the Muskoka Literacy Council

As part of the 2006 Muskoka Novel Marathon, Brady Magazine partnered with the Muskoka Literacy Council to help raise money by creating a Writers Helping Readers campaign. Writers not only donated money to promote literacy, they also donated their books, which will be used in conjunction with the Literacy Council’s current efforts to help improve literacy skills.
As a thank you to the writers and companies who made a donation, book information and company logos were placed on a display donated to the Huntsville Public Library during this year’s marathon.
The display was such a hit that Krissy Brady, owner of Brady Magazine, has decided to make the campaign an ongoing one.
“It was the first time I had ever taken part in a novel marathon,” says Brady. “As soon as I met Susan Lowe [Literacy Council chair], I knew I had to continue with the campaign. She is so caring and sincere; it became obvious to me that her determination has been beyond beneficial to the Literacy Council, and that she needed help to accomplish her goals.”
As soon as Brady heard that the Literacy Council needs $100,000 a year to function properly, but only receives $50,000 in funding, the campaign officially became a year round opportunity for writers to promote their work, as well as an important cause.
“A 97 year-old came to visit us during the marathon who learned how to read through the Literacy Council when he was 93,” explains Brady. “It can’t get more influential than that.”
To have your book or company promoted through Brady Magazine’s Writer’s Helping Readers campaign, simply make a donation to the Muskoka Literacy Council, and your book information/company logo will be placed on the campaign’s web page. So far, Brady Magazine’s campaign has raised over $500 for the Council. For more information or to donate, feel free to visit Brady Magazine’s website.
