Pupils from St Philips primary school, Offerton, visited Stepping Hill hospital to see their creative work in situ at the new £25 million Cardiology and Surgical Unit (C & SU).

The four children were thrilled to see their sculptures on the theme of ‘health’ hanging alongside that of professional artist Guy Stevens who guided their work. The children, who each created a sculpture from a tablet of stone, are Chloe Willoughby, Ryan Ward, Charlotte Oakley and Shauna Macalister.

Head teacher Mrs Bernadette Singleton said: “This was a really valuable opportunity for our pupils to broaden their skills. We are also really proud to be part of a community project. These children and their parents are thrilled with the experience.”

This work is part of an art in the community initiative, which means that visitors to the C & SU will be met by a strong mix of eye-catching and challenging artwork. Several artists have worked with schools and other local groups to produce works of art. Nine projects have been undertaken using the shared theme of ‘health’. Groups involved include Stockport school, St Philips primary school, Stockport FE and HE college, Cheadle Mosque Association, Bridge college (Offerton learning disabilities), Whaley Bridge primary school, St Chad’s Church youth group and Meadow Bank primary school.
