Living a Triple Life

Yvonne Eve Walus of Auckland, New Zealand, is leading a triple life: that as a mother of two preschoolers, that as a marketing director for a robotic company and that as a writer. “This year will see the release of two short story collections of mine, as well as one collection of poems,” says Yvonne. “I’ve also had success in the crime circles: one of my short murder mysteries appeared in a prestigious Crime Writers Association anthology, and another will be published by Echelon Press in September this year. So far, 2006 is proving to be good, if busy.”

Yvonne is living proof that there is no such excuse as “not enough time”. “If you want to follow your dream, you will do it between midnight and three a.m. if that’s what it takes,” she says.

Yvonne was born in Communist Poland and spent her teenage years in Apartheid South Africa. “I used my culturally diverse background in my writing,” she says. “The collection of short stories due to appear in September, for example, is split explicitly into the three geographic regions in which I’ve lived. For that reason, the book is titled The Three Oceans.”

Yvonne’s first published novel takes place in South Africa. Her second, in preparation, is a New Zealand book. Will there third one be placed in Poland?

“Most definitely. Poland of the 1970s, when communism was rife and, contrary to popular belief, not altogether bad.”

Yvonne Walus is published by Echelon Press Publishing, Pipers' Ash, and the Comma Press.
