Georgia’s Most “Exotic” Animal Hospital Announces New Ownership

For Pet’s Sake, the only veterinary hospital in Georgia that is devoted solely to pet birds and other exotic animal species recently announced new ownership. Avian Veterinary Services of Georgia has purchased the 16-year old business after several months of negotiation with its previous owner. The ownership change of For Pet’s Sake ensures area residents will seamlessly continue to receive unsurpassed pet care services by the only veterinary hospital in Georgia that is devoted solely to avian and exotic animal species. For Pet’s Sake’s clients come from all over including Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

Jason Hutcheson, DVM, President of Avian Veterinary Services of Georgia (AVS of GA), has been associated with For Pet’s Sake for over 11 years; serving as associate veterinarian since 2001. He earned a BS in Biology from Georgia Southern University in 1994 and obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 1998. In addition to his new ownership role, he will remain responsible for the day-to-day care of animals and operations of For Pet’s Sake.

Mimi Shepherd, DVM Diplomate ABVP (Avian), and previous owner, remains the only private practicing board certified avian veterinarian in the state and will continue practicing veterinary medicine at For Pet’s Sake. She graduated from Florida State University in 1975 earning a BS in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. After working at the Food and Drug Administration for several years, she attended the University of Georgia; earning a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. In 1999, she obtained Diplomate status of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners; certified in avian medicine.
