Indie Vets Re-launch Record Label
(PRLEAP.COM) ATLANTA- Award-winning songwriter & producer, derek sea has joined forces with Winfield Johnson Jr. of T.Y. Entertainment, and Travis Lewis and Terrell Morgan of Uni-World Records to re-launch indie recording label NS2. Founded in 1998 by Uni-World Records, NS2 features independent artists in the Southern Rap, Dirty South and Neo-Soul genres. The re-launch is fueled by the unique strengths and stellar achievements of each of the label’s partners.
ASCAP and Dirty South Award winner derek sea (AKA Derek Cooper), brings over 10 years of professional experience in the music industry to NS2. The veteran keyboardist turned writer/producer has produced hundreds of songs for TV and film projects through his sea music group enterprise. He has also worked with various gold platinum artists such as Pastor Troy, Freak Nasty, Damien Hall, Miracle and others.
As president of T.Y. Entertainment LLC, Winfield Johnston Jr. has provided support for creative talent and content that is often overlooked by major production companies such as comedian/actor Benji Brown, star of The Biglip Bandit’s Morning Show on WEDR-FM in Miami. He has also developed a number of DVD and TV productions including: In Touch With Reality starring Benji Brown; Dirty For Life starring DJ Demp, Trick Daddy, Pitbull, and Mike Jones; and a sitcom pilot for the Black Channel Family entitled With Friends Like These, starring hip hop diva Trina and Vibe Award Winner Ki Toy.
Travis Lewis has over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, which goes back to his days in the United States Army, where he worked in concert promotions with the USO. Lewis was instrumental in bringing diversity to the USO’s line-up of talent by helping to bring RUN DMC, Public Enemy and Too $hort to entertain America’s fighting forces in Europe. Since then, Lewis has had a long successful career working with independent labels such as Power Records, Triad Records and Star Chase Productions. In 1994 he and business partner Terrell Morgan founded Uni-World Records and its sister label, Dollars & $ense Records, where they helped Dirty South rapper, Freak Nasty, leap from regional to national prominence with his crossover hit “Da Dip”. Propelled by this success, Lewis and Morgan developed NS2 in 1998.
“This infusion of talent, experience and business acumen will definitely insure NS2’s place as the new sound down south,” says Lewis.
