Marine City, MI, USA The Book Blues bookstore in Marine City, MI, is not just about books and free coffee. Todd and Jacqueline Wilson, owners of the store, have also committed themselves to community efforts in an ever-challenging Michigan economy by donating books for soldiers and volunteering for city revitalization committees.

Books-for-Soldiers is an independent organization that provides a venue for contact between men and women in armed forces and providers wanting to send books and other items. The Book Blues bookstore recently secured an affiliation with the organization.

"We are setting it up so that our customers can purchase and donate books for the soldiers. Our store will then take care of the packing and shipping to insure that the soldiers' requests are fulfilled," said Jacqueline Wilson, published author and co-owner of the bookstore with her husband Todd, a sales director for Denon. The Wilsons are also creating a Books-for-Soldiers T-shirt and will be donating 20% of the profits to the Books-for-Soldiers efforts.

Jacqueline Wilson is also involved with an independent town committee concentrating on revitalizing the area. "Volunteering and giving back to our community has always been important to us," said Ms. Wilson. "We live in the community where we have our store. It's only natural that we would volunteer for efforts to improve the area."

The town committee is a volunteer group of individuals and business owners who are focusing on ways to improve the city. Recent efforts have included repairing city welcome signs and holding seminars for the city on how to bring new business and attract tourists. The committee is also working on new directional signage for the historic area and a brochure map for tourists, amongst a long list of other items.
