Exploris Hosts NC Homeland Security Community Forum
Raleigh Museum Hosts State Of Post-9/11 Homeland Security Discussion

RALEIGH, N.C. – Bonnie Hancock, Exploris president, has announced that the museum will host a community forum, The Current State of Security in North Carolina, on Sunday September 10 from 2 - 4 p.m. Keynote speakers will include Bryan Beatty, Secretary of the NC Department of Crime Control & Public Safety and Former Director of the State Bureau of Investigation, and John Strauchs, Principal and CEO of Systech Group, Inc., one of the largest independent security-engineering firms in the United States. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and participate in the discussion. The forum will be held in the Zanzibar Room at Exploris and is free to the public. The discussion will supplement the museum’s featured exhibit, The Enemy Within: Terror in America, 1776 to Today, which opened on August 26 and will run through November 26.
This exhibit, which provides a historical perspective on contemporary issues of homeland security and civil liberties, was created by the International Spy Museum in Washington D.C., opened in May 2004, and began its tour around the United States in February 2006 in Oklahoma City. It focuses on nine major events in history when Americans felt threatened by enemies within its borders and includes a timeline that leads up to the September 11th attacks.
“We are pleased to offer this educational forum program to the community,” said Hancock. “This exhibit may create questions among visitors about the steps being taken today to prevent future acts of terrorism in America. This is a great way to keep the community informed.”
