Suicidal Space Invaders

(Dallas, Texas) August 30, 2006 – Dallas-based game creator Blockdot has released Raidiux, an online game inspired by the changing landscape of warfare.

In the game, you are the pilot of the starfighter known as a Celestial Suicider. Your mission is to protect the colonial miners who extract ore from the mineral-rich regions of deep space by blowing yourself up when opposing forces show up.

The game takes a modern day look at traditional arcade space games where players normally would fly around shooting at their enemies.

“After watching what was happening around the world, we saw how the strategy of battle had shifted,” says Dan Ferguson, one of the game creators. "In World War II, Kamikaze pilots would kill themselves at the end of their mission by flying into their targets. Now we are seeing suicide as a combatant’s primary mission.”

The game developers use this premise as the main tactic of the game.

In the game, players must pilot their spaceship close enough to enemy raiders and blow themselves up in order to take down and enemy ship. Instead of dying along with the enemy, players reappear a split second later, unharmed and ready for more action.

“We thought the idea of hyperspacing out of danger the moment you blow yourself up was interesting and added a unique game play element that had never been done before,” says Dan. “The week we launched the game, 50,000 people had played it.”

The free game is also available as a Mac OSX or Windows PC download, as well as an online version available on Blockdot’s game portal, www.kewlbox.com.
